Open to domestic and international students, the English as an Additional Language (ESL/EAL) program offers a full range of English skill-building courses to build your English Language Proficiency (ELP) to meet prerequisites for academic, personal and professional goals.

In the EAL program you have the opportunity to be immersed in a university-level experience with instructors who have experience with adult education. Students focus on reading, writing and speaking with opportunities to build higher-level skills in grammar, vocabulary and research writing.

Funded program for newcomers launched winter 2024

MacEwan University is pleased to partner with the Government of Alberta to offer a fully funded 12-week course. Designed to prepare students for the Office Assistant program, The Foundational Pathway for Newcomers: English Language Training and Administrative Skill Development course will continue in Fall 2024.

Funded program for Ukrainian newcomers launched fall 2024

The School of Continuing Education and the Ukrainian Resource and Development Centre are pleased to partner with the Government of Alberta to offer a fully funded 12-week course. Designed to increase student self-confidence to improve their lives in Alberta, the Essential English Language Skills program will launch in Fall 2024 and continue until Fall 2025.
